PFC & EMI MAGNETICS

Separate power-stage and noise-filter requirements before selecting magnetics

PFC energy storage, differential-mode attenuation and common-mode noise suppression are different magnetic jobs. IKP reviews the waveform, current, impedance target, insulation, temperature and mechanical constraints before selecting a topology.

Product suitability, ratings, test conditions and compliance requirements are confirmed by IKP engineering before quotation.

PFC / EMI COMPONENT PATHSPower conversion and filter magnetics

Use a standard family as the starting point, then confirm the project-specific electrical, insulation and thermal conditions.

Functions
PFC energy storage, differential-mode filtering and common-mode suppression
Critical inputs
Waveform, RMS/peak current, frequency, impedance and insulation
Validation
Electrical, thermal and system-level EMI acceptance criteria
FUNCTION FIRST

Match the magnetic review to the noise or power-conversion problem

01

Boost and interleaved PFC inductors

Review energy storage, ripple, DC bias, switching frequency, core and copper loss across the operating range.

02

Input and output filter chokes

Define the differential noise band, target attenuation, current waveform, saturation margin and damping context.

03

Single- and three-phase common-mode chokes

Review common-mode impedance, leakage inductance, line current, insulation, creepage and temperature rise.

COMPONENT PATHS

Choose a topology only after the system requirement is clear

The same nominal inductance or impedance does not guarantee equivalent behavior under bias, frequency and temperature.

POWER STAGE

PFC and boost inductors

Provide input range, output voltage, switching strategy, ripple target and cooling conditions for the first calculation review.

Upload a PFC requirement
EMI FILTER

Common- and differential-mode chokes

Share the line configuration, current, target noise band, insulation requirement and available filter envelope.

CUSTOM

Application-specific windings

Start a custom feasibility review when the current, impedance, insulation, terminals or envelope cannot be met by a standard item.

REVIEW WORKFLOW

Connect the magnetic component to the converter and EMI test

  1. 01

    Identify the function

Separate PFC energy storage, differential-mode attenuation and common-mode suppression requirements.

  2. 02

    Share worst-case conditions

Include input range, switching frequency, RMS/peak current, ambient, cooling and fault conditions.

  3. 03

    Review topology and insulation

Evaluate core, winding, impedance, leakage, creepage, clearance and the available mechanical envelope.

  4. 04

    Validate in the target system

Confirm temperature, waveform and system-level EMI results against agreed project criteria.

RFQ CHECKLIST

Inputs for a PFC or EMI magnetic review

A schematic excerpt, waveform or current part number can accelerate the first review.

  • Converter or filter position and line configuration
  • Input/output range and switching-frequency range
  • RMS, peak, ripple and fault-current conditions
  • Target inductance, impedance curve or attenuation band
  • Insulation, creepage, clearance and hipot requirements
  • Ambient, cooling, maximum envelope, volume and timing
START A PROJECT

Send the PFC stage, filter target or current choke

IKP will identify the relevant topology, current product evidence and open validation items before a formal proposal.
